How to Create an End-of-Class Tea Towel Memento?

class tea towels

Putting together a Tea Towel Momento for your class can be a fun and creative way to give back to the students for all their hard work.

The project allows students to express themselves by creating a self-portrait, a hand-print, a sketch or a signature on a Class tea towel.

All they need is an A5 sheet of paper and a black Texta pen. Then allow their creative juices to flow free.

Preparing the Artwork

Organise the students, who are going to participate and submit their drawings or prints. Get them to cut in half some blank A4 papers and turn them into A5-size pieces of paper. Hand out some black Texta pens, then allow their creative juices to flow.

These are the three most popular types of artwork are:

  • Handprints
  • Self-portraits
  • Photos

Then, you can decide which type of artwork the class will be undertaking:

  1. Handprints. To get the best results with handprints do not dip hands in the paint. This creates too much smudging ( and it’s very messy). Use a roller or dab the paint on the hand with a sponge before pressing on the paper
  2. Self-portrait. Designs can be done using black textas or crayons.
  3. Have students draw a picture of themselves
  4. Photos. Students could take a photo in class, or they could provide their photo
  5. Individual prints. Students could do an individual print on an A4 piece of paper using any kind of colour paint or crayon.
  6. Collect all the drawings, logos and artwork

Make sure each student puts their name on their artwork. Ideally, their names and the class should be written at the bottom edge of the paper, or under the drawing.

Sending Us the Artwork

Once complete, use your phone or a digital camera and take photos of the kid’s artwork and bundle them up in a zip file that you can send to us.

You can choose a border for your class tea towel. We have a range here: Tea Towel Borders. Or you can send us something you may have created.

If we are producing a self-portrait design, and we are to screen print the design all in one colour, advise us of what colour you are after. See common colours.

You can add a school logo (send in the zip file as well) to the design. We generally add it to the centre of the tea towel.

Or if you have your own special design, send us your preferred design.
